San Jose acquired Wallin and a 2010 fifth round pick from Carolina for in exchange for Buffalo's second round selection in 2010. Wallin couldn't ask for a much better defensive partner than Boyle, but Wallin still isn't expected to have any fantasy value. Wallin, 34, has never registered more than 10 points in a single season and he has five points in 47 games in 2009-10.

Ribeiro came off injured reserve Monday while wingers Raymond Sawada and Francis Wathier were recalled from the Texas Stars of the AHL. Ribeiro was accidentally struck in the throat by the stick of New York's Christopher Higgins in the Rangers' 5-2 victory on Jan.

Assistant GM Pierre Gauthier will serve as the team's GM on an interim basis. Gainey completely restructured in the team in the off-season after the Canadiens just barely squeaked into the playoffs in 2008-09. The result? Montreal currently has a mediocre 28-26-6 record, which is good for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Gainey had a 241-176-46-7 record overall as Montreal's General Manager.
